Your Contract for a Bespoke Wedding Ceremony
I will work with you to create a personal ceremony.
I will start with a blank sheet, lots of ideas and prompts and an understanding of legal requirements.
I aim to create a ceremony that combines the legal requirements with a very personal and meaningful ceremony that reflects your values and style.
I will help you innovate from traditions, creating memorable moments for you and your guests.
I bring experience and skills. I aim to be both professional and friendly… a support and guide for this important life event.
Definitions
You are The Couple as named in The Booking Confirmation.
I am The Celebrant, James Oakley.
The Place is the Venue for the Marriage as specified in The Booking Confirmation.
Date and Time are The Date and Time for the Wedding Ceremony as specified in The Booking Confirmation.
Celebrant’s responsibilities
I will follow up requests for information timeously and explain how we work.
I will meet with you at a convenient time and place for a meeting (or online where this is not possible) to get to know you and help you craft your unique ceremony.
I will draft a ceremony that reflects Humanist values and follows the Code of Conduct of A Quiet Revolution, the Humanist body I affiliate to.
I will do my best to provide a spirited, meaningful ceremony that suits your wishes and reflects what was agreed in the planning stage.
I will request my humanist organisation, A Quiet Revolution to seek authorisation from the Registrar General for the celebrant to solemnise the Marriage. It is my responsibility to organise this in good time around 12 weeks prior to the wedding date.
I will create a ceremony in accordance with the Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977 or any other relevant legislation and guidance.
I will share the ceremony draft and agree amendments with the couple. (For guidance, around two or three sets of revisions are usually undertaken.)
The celebrant will carry out the ceremony on the date and place as specified on the Marriage Schedule.
I will turn up in good time on the day and liaise with anyone necessary at the venue and check in with the couple as required.
I will ensure the Marriage Schedule is correctly signed on the wedding day in permanent black liquid ink, ensuring any amendments to the Marriage Schedule are made and initialled.
I will pay a donation on your behalf to the charity, A Quiet Revolution.
Any deposit you pay is not returnable and non-refundable.
If for any reason the Registrar General does not give permission for the marriage, our contract is voided; you don’t pay the balance and A Quiet Revolution doesn’t owe you anything. I personally have insurance, you may wish to consider Wedding Insurance too.
If, in exceptional circumstances, the celebrant is unable to conduct the ceremony, A Quiet Revolution will do its best to find another Marriage Officer to conduct the ceremony, from within its team or with another celebrant.
Neither I, nor A Quiet Revolution can accept responsibility for any losses, though you may note I do have specialist Public Liability insurance cover for £1,000,000 for Humanist Ceremonies.
Your responsibilities
You must contact the Registrar in the district where the marriage is to take place, between 12 weeks and 29 days before the date of the wedding to submit the M10 or other appropriate Marriage Notice form. This is the information needed about the celebrant for the form:
